cPanel is a web-based control panel that lets you manage your hosting account without using the command line. You use it to create email accounts, add domains and subdomains, manage DNS records, upload files, create databases, install WordPress, add SSL certificates and take backups.
Open https://yourdomain.com:2083 or https://yourdomain.com/cpanel in your browser and enter the cPanel username and password from your hosting welcome email. Many hosts also offer a one-click “Login to cPanel” button in their client area.
cPanel manages a single hosting account (your websites, email and files). WHM (Web Host Manager) sits above it and manages the whole server or reseller account, letting you create and control many cPanel accounts.
On most hosts, yes. cPanel’s AutoSSL can issue and renew free domain-validated certificates automatically. Check Security → SSL/TLS Status to see which domains are covered.
At least weekly for most small sites, and daily for busy sites or online stores. Always take a fresh backup before updating WordPress, changing DNS or moving hosts, and keep a copy off the server.
Tell us what you are stuck on in cPanel or WHM and we will consider it for our next guide.
